H.D. and Clara Schlotfeldt Emergency Loan Fund

This fund was established by the family of H.D. and Clara Schlotfeldt in loving homage to their indomitable spirits. H.D. “Dud” was a member of the Operating Engineers Union and a shop steward of Local No. 370 and later supervisor of Drainage District No. 9. Clara began her long career in nursing after graduating from high school in Fairbanks, Alaska in 1935. She entered the three-year nursing program at Providence Hospital in Seattle, which was affiliated with the University of Washington. She later trained in anesthesia and obstetrics at Cook Hospital in Chicago. In 1961 when the Lower Valley RN Program was formed, she was an instructor, later director, and was involved with the program at Yakima Valley College until her retirement. In her later years she was a volunteer for hospice. H.D. and Clara had five children. They have both passed.
