Miller Family Nursing Scholarship
Charlene Edith (Salter) Miller was born in Bozeman, Montana, July 2, 1929. After a move to Denver, Colorado, Charlene’s family moved to Missoula, Montana, where Charlene attended the University of Montana to study accounting. Once in the program, she decided that was not her path. Her mother, the first Licensed Practical Nurse in the state of Montana, suggested that she look into nursing as a profession. She introduced Charlene to a colleague, the director of the community hospital, who advised Charlene to attend a four-year program since that was the direction that nursing was heading. She attended the St. Luke’s program and WSU, graduating in 1953. Her main areas of interest and practice were rehabilitation and public health during her 41-year career. Charlene enjoyed a long marriage with Dwight Miller until his death in 1998. This scholarship honors her commitment and compassion for nursing.
