Madeline Maguire Nursing Scholarship

This scholarship was established by Madeline Maguire’s children, in honor of their mother at the Eastern Washington University Foundation. Madeline was born in 1918 and attended college late in life, graduating from Spokane Community College with an Associate’s Degree in Licensed Practical Nursing at the age of 52. It was always her desire to enter a four-year university and when asked to give one word how to excel in life, Madeline’s answer was always “education.” She worked mainly in nursing homes and did part-time nursing well into her 80s. She passed away at the age of 90.
