Dorothy Detlor Graduate Fellowship in Nursing Education
This fellowship was established in 2006 to honor the nursing career and legacy of Dr. Dorothy M. Detlor, who served as dean of the College of Nursing from 1997 to 2006. Dorothy graduated from the Deaconess Hospital School of Nursing in 1960 and obtained her BSN from Whitworth College in 1961. Specializing in emergency trauma care, she later received her MS in nursing from the University of Maryland in 1973 and a PhD in Educational Leadership from Gonzaga University in 1984. Dorothy joined the faculty at WSU Intercollegiate College of Nursing in 1974 as an instructor where she rose through the ranks to become an associate professor. After serving ICN for nearly 15 years, she accepted the position of dean and professor at Pacific Luther University School of Nursing, where she served for nine years. She rejoined ICN in 1997 as dean and professor, where she served until her retirement in 2006. She is currently Dean Emeritus at WSU College of Nursing. This fellowship was established to honor her accomplishments as dean, including: increased enrollment of undergraduate students, development of doctoral nursing programs, and construction of state-of-the-art, world-class facilities.
