Catherine Pluym Dalman Nursing Scholarship

Catherine Pluym Dalman Nursing Scholarship

This scholarship was established by Paul Dalman (‘41 CEA, Chem. E.) in memory of his wife Catherine Pluym Dalman. Paul played clarinet in bands during the Big Band eras of the 30s, which helped cover his tuition and living expenses. Paul and Catherine married in 1941 on Valentine’s Day. After graduation, Paul received a job offer from the DuPont Company, where he spent his entire career, including many moves across the country and U.S. Catherine was an RN and made her available to each local medical community for volunteer services wherever they were needed. She worked and volunteered at hospitals, clinics, and relief organizations. After Paul’s retirement in 1977, they settled in California. Catherine was a strong supporter of education and wanted her remaining assets to be used for education not luxuries: “No boats, no BMWs!” Paul honored her wishes by setting up a scholarship in his wife’s name for helping others enter the nursing profession she loved and to which she devoted her life. Both Paul and Catherine have passed.
